Girls Regional Rankings - 10/10/24 By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor One of last weekend's results that hasn't gotten enough attention was the performance turned in by the Romeo MI girls at the Portage Invitational. Natalia Guaresimo led all five of Romeo's scorers into the top 13 of a meet that included the state's other powers, Saline, Ann Arbor Pioneer and Ottawa West Holland. Helen Sachs won the race by more than 40 seconds to lead Ottawa West Holland, which didn't have all of its big guns in the lineup, and tentatively holds onto the No. 2 spot in the Midwest. Mountain Vista of Colorado, the national No. 1, was sensational at the Pat Patten Invitational in Boulder and put nine runners in the top 12. The depth of Vista is unmatched and a primary reason why they are the midseason pick to win Nike Cross Nationals. Juliet Frum and Claire Guiberson lead the way. The Northwest has become one of the more difficult regions to sort out, but this weekend's Hole In The Wall Invitational and Rose City Championship in Portland should be revealing. Jesuit OR's girls hold onto No. 1 despite not winning last week because there is some anticipation about the addition of a runner returning from injury to join the lineup at Saturday's Hole In The Wall Invitational. What is becoming clear is that the Boise area is a hotbed. Timberline, Boise Senior, Capital and Rocky Mountain all have girls teams who could challenge for NXN berths. Cardinal Gibbons NC continued to show dominance in the Southeast with its victory at Great American. The bigger news was James Robinson of Fairfax, Va. stepping up as a top-five team in the region. California's rankings will be shaped anew by this weekend's Clovis Invitational as the state's top schools put their best efforts onto the state meet course at Woodward Park. Texas is entering its district meets this weekend, and No. 2 Flower Mound looks to keep the momentum rolling toward the upcoming UIL state championships.
