Bethlehem Central NY, Buchanan CA Move Up With Impressive Victories At Massive Invitationals By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor The Asics Clovis Invitational was bound to provide an update on the relative strength of California's top teams after a long wait since the flat-and-fast Woodbridge results in September. Buchanan not only beat a stellar field of girls teams in the championship race last Saturday at Woodward Park, but was dominant with a score of 65 points. The quartet of Molly Sundgren, Kynzlee Buckley, Gaby Gutierrez and Brooklyn Buckley all ran under 18 minutes and fifth scorer Avery Hutchison was 23 seconds behind them, which was more than enough to win the team title by 39 points over J. Serra Catholic. Buchanan's bounce back was not unexpected. After all, the Bears were slotted at No. 2 nationally in the preseason and may get back there. At Van Cortlandt Park, the Bethlehem Central NY girls won the Eastern States Championship with 24 points and got a complete effort across the board from Sophia Chromczak (third), Katherine Bannigan (eighth), Charlotte O'Meara (ninth), Anna Chrapowitzky (10th) and Logan Kuhn (11th). They finished 2-4-5-6-7 in team scoring. Bethlehem Central moves up to No. 3 with that performance. The five scorers crossed the finish line within a span of 22 seconds. Other teams on the move this week are Romeo of Michigan, which won the Portage Invitational, Shenendehowa Central of New York, which won the Burnt Hills Invitational, Brentwood TN, which won the Jesse Owens Classic, and Boise ID, which won the Rose City Championship in Portland.
