No. 1 Herriman Holds On To Beat American Fork In Utah, Puts Four In Top Nine By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Wednesday's state meet in Utah featured another epic tilt in the 6A final between Herriman and American Fork. Remember, in 2023, American Fork swept the top three spots in the state championship race and beat Herriman in a matchup between the nation's top two teams. Then, Herriman finished behind American Fork again at NXR Southwest before coming out on top at Nike Cross Nationals. Herriman remains unbeaten, although a 44-50 winning margin possibly said more about American Fork, which rides that result back up into the top five. Kaden Evans ran the second-fastest time ever on the Sugar House Park three-mile layout, just a few seconds off Casey Clinger's record. Belen Jesuit of Miami also bumped up a couple of spots after an impressive showing at the New World Fall Spectacular in Jacksonville. Colorado and Texas are two of the 24 state meets on tap for this weekend. No. 7 Austin Vandegrift could be in position to unseat No. 8 Southlake Carroll in what should be an excellent Texas Class 6A final on Friday. Last year, Southlake Carroll beat Vandegrift 48-69. It was an impressive display of depth and also, possibly, restraint. The Top 30
