Girls Regional Rankings - 11/21/24 By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Downers Grove (North) IL upset Romeo MI by a point at NXR Midwest on Sunday, dealing rare loss to one of the regional No. 1s. Romeo, competing as Runners High, underperformed its state championship effort in Michigan but even with so-so day earned the state's second Nike Cross Nationals berth. Downers North is the only school in the country leading a regional ranking in both genders. Five NXR meets on Saturday will layer one on top of the other, all taking place within the span of three hours. All of it will be carried live on RunnerSpace. In the Southwest, preseason No. 1 Mountain Vista and Air Academy will try to run their way back to Portland. Lone Peak is definitely in the hunt as well and should feel a degree of confidence about securing an at-large berth even in third. More Colorado teams from Fossil Ridge and Chaparral are also within striking distance. Defending NXN champion Addy Ritzenhein will be racing to earn a return to Portland but Niwot's lack of depth at No. 5 is a likely barrier to making it as a team. In Texas, Flower Mound and Bridgeland will look to maintain the order they established in the Texas Class 6A final. Rogers, led by Lilly Beshears, will be looking to make some history for the state of Arkansas, as will Owasso and Piedmont of Oklahoma. Comal Smithson Valley, the Class 5A Texas champion, should be close as well. Cardinal Gibbons of North Carolina and Brentwood of Tennessee are a notch above the rest of the Southeast in terms of depth, but Padua DE has also become a threat to secure an at-large berth. No. 1 Bethlehem Central dominated the New York state meet with a score of 20 points and may be in cruising mode as it comes to the New York State Federation Championships at NXR. Fellow Section 2 programs Shenendehowa, Saratoga Springs and Guilderland will be chasing for the second automatic berth. Reigning NXR Northeast champion Paige Sheppard will lead Union Catholic NJ into the regional after two straight weekends of championship Saturdays at Holmdel Park. The three regions at the bottom - Heartland, Northwest and Midwest - are already decided by the NXR results. SOUTHWEST SOUTH SOUTHEAST NEW YORK NORTHEAST CALIFORNIA HEARTLAND MIDWEST 4.
