Jesuit CA Back Up To No. 2 With Victory Over Herriman UT At Clovis Invitational By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor California's top team, Jesuit of Carmichael, got a significant boost from transfer Connor Bilodeau and defeated Herriman UT 90-112 at the ASICS Clovis Invitational on Saturday at Woodward Park in Fresno. Yes, there was a lot to celebrate for Herriman, too. Jackson Spencer's course record time of 14:17 was the performance of the season so far this fall. Spencer has become an easy choice for No. 1 runner in the nation. The two teams finished in the reverse order at the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic and the different was Bilodeau, who didn't run at the September meet but finished as the Marauders' No. 1 in 11th place at Clovis. Besides No. 1, Jesuit won its matchups with Herriman at 2, 3, 4 and 5. Third-place Woodbridge CA made a big leap up to No. 11 and may have the inside track to California's second automatic qualifying berth if it can replicate that effort at the state meet. Another impactful meet was the Hole-In-The-Wall Invitational where Coeur d'Alene ID seemed to run energized by the return of Wyatt Carr from an injury and turned in an exceptional performance to beat Northwest No. 1 Jesuit OR. Jesuit actually ran quite well, with five runners under 15:30 on the 5,000-meter layout. Coeur d'Alene had five scorers under 15:15. At the Manhattan Invitational, Christian Brothers NJ won the Eastern States title for the 21st time and the Colts were impressive. Clearly they are the top team in the East. In second place, Bishop Hendricken of Rhode Island also ran well and moved up a few spots to No. 17. Southlake Carroll TX welcomed back senior Caden Leonard, the top returner from last year's Nike Cross Nationals, and the Dragons are back in the top 20 after their district meet. Nike XC Town Twilight winner Columbus North IN is No. 7 and Great American XC Festival champion Christ School NC is No. 8. The Top 30 |
