By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

Marietta won its fifth girls Class 7A cross country title in six years at the Georgia state cross country championships in Carrollton, Nov. 4-5. The school made it a sweep when the Blue Devils boys, who lost last year's meet by two points, also won.

Junior Memphis Rich from Richmond Hill ran 16:21.93 to win the 7A boys final.

Samantha McGarity of Harrison, also a junior, ran the fastest time of the meet for the girls, running 18:34.91.

Sophomore Tommy Latham from Marist ran 15:58.17 for a 24-second margin of victory in the Class 6A final. He was the only boy across seven classes to break the 16-minute barrier. North Atlanta edged out Pope, 98-106, for the team championship.

The Marist girls put four in the top 13 on the way to winning the 6A girls crown. Out front, senior Hannah Schemmel from St. Pius X Catholic ran to victory in 19:12.92, barely ahead of Dunwoody's Claire Shelton (19:13.50).
