Principe leads La Salle to Class A win

At the Rhode Island Class A Championships, David Principe Jr. led La Salle to a team title over Bishop Hendricken 33-48. Principe won the 5,000-meter race in 15 minutes and 19.98 seconds. Teammate Matt Bouthillette was second (15:28.72). Principe recorded the fastest time of the entire meet.
In the girls 5K race, Eleanor Lawler of South Kingstown captured first (17:50.59), but it was all La Salle after. La Salle took second through fifth place, placing six runners in the top 10 to score 23 points. La Salle is ranked No. 24 in the latest DyeStat national team rankings.
In the Class B race, Classical senior Joseph Murphy ran 16 minutes and 29.83 second sto claim first place. Barrington easily won the team title with 43 points, placing six runners in the top 20.
In the girls 5K race, Randi Burr of Westerly High, captured first in 18:56.72. She was the only female runner to go under 19 in the race. St. Mary's Academy won the team championship scoring 45 points to beat out Portsmouth (57).
In the Class C race, Mount St. Charles' Charles Berg won the 5,000-meter race in 16 minutes and 18.42. East Greenwich won the team title scoring 40 points to beat out Ponaganset (86) and Smithfield (113).
In the girls C race, senior Marissa McPhillips of Narragansett High easily won the C crown, crossing the line in 18:48.02, nearly one minute faster than second place finisher (Una Treanor, Smithfield 19:34.24).
In the team race, East Greenwich scored 37 points, placing four in the top 10. Smithfield was second (42). More news |
